+ MISSION +
The Collective sex is a storytelling movement. It is made up of a multi-disciplinary collective of storytellers, social activists, creatives and facilitators. The mission of The Collective Sex is to:
Create and hold spaces both physically and virtually where we can practice and learn vulnerability
Uncover and recover our own stories about sex, body, intimacy and identity and share those stories broadly
+ MANIFESTO +
We started with sex.
But, you see, we cannot just talk about sex.
We cannot talk about sexual perspectives and expressions without talking about gender identity and diversity.
We cannot talk about fulfillment and satisfaction without talking about privilege and injustice.
We cannot talk about personal choice and agency without talking about matrices of power.
We cannot talk about pleasure and body without talking about violence.
We cannot talk about empowerment without talking about oppression.
WE CANNOT TELL OUR STORIES WITHOUT TALKING ABOUT SILENCES.
We start talking.
We ask the questions that matter.
We figure out what we want, and we ask for what we need.
We bring back pleasure, connection, intimacy, and joy to our conversations about our bodies, our relationships, and our lives.
We become allies in each other's battles.
We examine our places of intersectionality.
We understand and internalize into our deepest bone marrow that in order to survive we must take care of one another.
We are not islands.
Let's stop treating one another that way.
+ PRINCIPLES +
BE IN THE ROOM //
...because nothing can change if we don't show up first. When we show up, we are saying I am here, this matters to me, you matter to me. To be in the room is to be an activist.
HOLD THE SPACE //
...because space creates experience. When we hold the space we are giving permission for intimacy, vulnerability, and connection to thrive. To hold the space is to allow ourselves to be held too.
ASK THE QUESTIONS //
...because there are no correct answers, only courageous questions. When we ask questions we are breathing air into silence. To ask questions is to start conversation.
SHARE THE MESS //
...because the mess is delicious, it's what makes us human. It is in the mess that we find where we connect, where we intersect. To share the messy is to acknowledge we are not alone.
INTERSECT THE STORIES //
...because we are not islands, we are a web. When we intersect the stories we acknowledge that the personal is political. When we intersect our stories we intersect our identities.
CELEBRATE THE HUMAN //
...because celebration is gratitude. When we celebrate we are talking about radical joy, we are talking about screaming for the things we believe in. Our kind of celebration is about seeing the hurt, seeing the suffering, seeing the fear, and still choosing LOVE.
Love is always the strongest choice.
